About Me

I’m Thomas Lockney, an Oregon-based engineering leader with a deep product-oriented mindset and a generalist’s perspective. I’ve spent my career building platforms that scale, empower users, and drive measurable success, combining collective expertise with diverse teams to tackle complex challenges.

Professional Journey

I currently lead the software engineering group building a SaaS and Data platform at Metron, a leader in water monitoring and management. This platform provides customers with tools to monitor and manage their water resources. My role involves overseeing the engineering team, driving technical strategy, and delivering software solutions that meet customer needs.

Before Metron, I served as Engineering Group Lead for HubSpot’s Developer Product Group, where I oversaw a platform enabling external developers to extend HubSpot’s capabilities—from external documentation and serverless infrastructure to observability tools and UI extensibility. Leading a team of engineers, managers, and tech leads, we delivered UI extensibility features that enabled developers to create custom interfaces within the HubSpot ecosystem.

Prior to HubSpot, I was an Engineering Leader at Nike, guiding teams responsible for the Nike Communications Platform, which powered all digital marketing communications, and the Nike Activity Platform, the backbone of Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club apps, supporting over 1.2 billion user activities.

I’ve also been a community builder—hosting Nike Tech Talks, founding and organizing the PNWScala conference, and championing open-source initiatives. I’ve spoken at conferences, user groups, and corporate events, mentored engineers, coached leaders, and contributed to advancing the craft through technical book reviews and collaboration.

Whether architecting scalable systems, advocating for open-source collaboration, or mentoring the next generation of leaders, I work to leave a lasting impact on the organizations and communities I serve.
